Scripture: …continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Philippians 2:12-13

A Dream of Camping

We were camping with some family members at a local state park and had taken a car ride to show my parents around the park. We piled in the station wagon like sardines and were crossing over the lake on a long bridge. Just as we neared the center the water rushed up and the bridge broke. Our car plunged into the now raging water! The car was floating, but we knew we had to react fast. My mother of 73 could not swim and even for a good swimmer the waters were dangerous. It was a moment of sheer terror! I knew that we would surely drown!

Along the bank of the swollen river was a man running along side the car. Suddenly the car caught on something and the back swung around a smacked the bank. The car was temporarily wedged there against the bank. We rolled down the back window and everyone climbed out to safety. What had seemed like a dire situation was over. A moment of terror had ended with everyone safe.

This did not actually happen. It was a dream I had a few nights ago. I woke startled and troubled about how scary that feeling was. It wasn’t until later in the day that I remembered the rest of my dream…

After we were safe, there were still members of our group that were freaking out and talking about how we almost died. The man who had helped us informed us that the dam broke without warning and washed the entire campground away. If we had not been in the car when the dam broke we would have been swept away like everyone else in the campground.

WOOW! Did you get it? What may seem like a situation of peril now, could be God’s way of saving your life. Our perspective greatly affects our attitude. If we focus on the calamity, then we might likely overlook the hand of God that is saving us. Nothing happens to us that has not passed through God’s hands first. He knows where we are and what is going on in our lives all the time. He is sovereign and faithfully works all things together for our good because we are called according to his purpose. I pray that if you are in a car in the middle of a river, that you are looking for what God has saved you from by placing you there. Although it may not seem so now, your current situation may be His way of protecting you.

Prayer: Sovereign God, you are always God. I give up control of my life to you. Take over, and bring about your purpose in me. AMEN!

Prayer Tip: Check your posture when you pray. Sometimes our body language tells God a lot about how we really feel. Be sensitive to where and how you should approach his throne.
